This is my front cover for my magazine, i have used a big bold masthead to draw the attention of any potential readers straight to what the magazine is about. From this masthead you get a clear reflection of what the magazine is going to be about and what it is going to be about, it is easy to see that its going to be about music because of the word "beat" and the colours used and the layout show its going to be in your face and bold.
I have used a different style of cover line for my magazine instead of the usual print across the page I have created a box in the top right corner of my magazine that says "The best R&B artists" this is to show that the magazine is going to be all about the lives and the songs of some of the bests artists in my magazines genre today, this will attract a wide audience of R&B fans. To back the cover line up i have put the names of the artists who will feature in my magazine across my front cover with one of my major features being an interview with 'Labrinth' i have used a fake pull quote from an pretend interview to engage the reader and want to read more about his experiences in his climb to fame as one of the most well known R&B artists currently in the charts. I have put the name Labrinth in a deep red colour and used a bold font to show the importance of the name, the colour red is often associated with fire and danger showing emphasising that this interview is not one that an audience is going to want to miss. I have then used a few other cover lines in my front cover about different things to show that the magazine is packed full of stories and articles that are exciting and interesting using a set colour scheme to help show what is the key points behind each article. The important use of the colour red in the word 'old' is key to drawing in the audience that want to capture and enjoy all of their youth.
For my cover image i directed one of my friends where to take the photo from and from what angle and made sure the lighting was correct to reach the maximum potential so that it could be edited successfully. I posed in the image in a way in which i knew would be suitable for my audience, although the image is quite shocking and controversial this is exactly what needs to be shown for a magazine of this genre type, the genre is all about controversy and going against typical pictures and this picture represents this perfectly. I included a bar code in the bottom right corner of the magazine and the issue date whilst also including the magazines website at the bottom of the page as these are all conventional for a magazine cover.
For my contents page I stayed with the same colour scheme which i feel gives the page a professional and more classy look to it, its simple and easy to read and you can see exactly where you need to go to do what and isn't too congested, this is suitable for my audience as they will wont want to spend hours looking at things that disinterest them. I have put the word Contents in big bold letters and laid it out in a peculiar style so that the reader gets a clear idea of where they are in the magazine and can also see the page number on this page, this is needed because often in magazines their is a fair amount of advertisement before the contents page and it is difficult to differentiate where you are in the magazine. In the top right hand corner of the page i have again advertised the website of the magazine so that any of the audience members can enhance their knowledge on their favourite artists or bands by going to the website and looking at even more of our articles and interviews.
The variety of pictures and text on my contents page shows that my magazine is going to be just as much about looking at pictures of your favourite stars as well as reading about them, this will keep my audience engaged and interested in the magazine throughout rather than sending them to sleep with essays of writing. The images at the bottom are also of some of their favourite artists playing around and enjoying themselves showing that this is an action packed magazine and is going to be a lot of fun. In the 'Features' section i have pulled out some of the articles i originally advertised on the front page and put a little bit more detail in about them so the audience can go directly to what they want to see first before perhaps looking through the magazine for the other interesting stories, but by advertising these bigger stories they will be more interested in the magazine. I have also put in a little bit near the main picture that explains a little bit about the person being shown, this means that the audience can get to know the person they are looking at a little bit and can also see exactly what they are wearing and where they bought it from as an audience like mine is going to be very interested and making themselves look like somebody famous.
dafont.com" and helps give the article a more interesting look and makes the name 'Shane' stand out more and have more importance on the page.
The pull quotes i used i made a little bit bigger and used in a red font to again show that anything in red on my magazine is going to be important and this is continuous throughout my magazine and in this page. I had decided from the start i wanted just one larger image for my DPS to make it clear to my audience who the important and key person in the interview is, this shows the importance of this person and draws the reader in to find out more about them and want to read the interview.
