Representation

It is obvious the similarities between the picture in vibe magazine with usher and that of the picture in my magazine. Although during production of my magazine I had not actually seen this picture used it is very similar to the one I created after studying other Vibe magazines.

The stance in which usher is standing is similar to mine, our heads are both tilted in a similar way, the angle again is the same both the pictures are straight on and are medium close-ups so that we can see just one hand and all of their face with a little bit of their body included. This relaxed stance and the general mood given off in both pictures is a representation of how the genre both magazines are targetted too are.

Both magazines are targetting a R&B type audience and this is the sort of laid back attitude they have. The expression used in both of the pictures are similar, they have both chosen to cover their eyes with sunglasses to create mystery and to hide their emotions a little bit although their seems to be quite a stern look coming from their mouth and jaw. This more agressive and stern look is a representation of the genre, the R&B world is all based around hatred and anger and alot of artists portray this in their music. from artists like eminem to ed sheeran they talk about the bad things in life and what is wrong in the world. These are things that R&B fans can relate too and both magazines try to make it so the audience can relate to the pictures aswell. Both pictures seem to have a natural lighting that doesnt really make any certain parts of them stand out, this could further represent the genre.

Both characters in the pictures are using a sort of "slang" term by their representation of the middle finger although in my magazine I am actually using the middle finger usher is not but is representing the controversy of it and at first glance it looks as if he is using the "slang" expression. The pictures reinforce the stereotype of a typical youth as being angry and aggressive but although alot of young people do not enjoy being portrayed like this they will still relate to this sort of picture.

I have represented the male gender as being controlling and strong in my picture and this is done in the vibe magazine aswell this will appeal to my mainly male audience. Although both magazines try to represent an audience that probably doesnt have alot of money in both pictures the people look as if they are fairly well fortuned both are wearing jewelerry and expensive clothing. This shows that the sort of people that read the magazines probably inspired by these people to do the best they can to get the best. Although both the people in the magazines are of a different race with a caucassion in my magazine and a black man in the vibe magazine it shows that we are not all that different and that it goes against stereotypes in my magazine that its just black men that are in R&B and that male caucassions are also into this sort of style. Generally among a mainstream audience this type of behaviour is frowned upon and is fought against but for the audience the magazines are aiming at it is the perfect sort of image to attract them straight to your magazine.

My magazine is likely to appeal to a variety of advertisers, it will have a fair amount of advertisement in it but will mainly be about the content, things like clothes designers and other fashion acceseries are going to be key in both of these magazines, they are both also likely to appeal to car manufacturers and this a typical thing males are interested and perhaps concert tickets or aftershave products like CK or Armani, these sorts of things are what my audience would aspire to have.
